Meet Grandma
My mom loves being a grandmother and can't wait to welcome another grandchild to dote on. I'm incredibly lucky to have her living with me as we're both looking forward to sharing our home and our hearts with a child. She and her grandchildren share a special bond that only a grandma can create—warm, playful, and full of love. As a retired schoolteacher, she has both the time and the patience to nurture a child, and her passion for learning keeps her mind active. She enjoys playing mahjong, crafting dollhouse miniatures, and studying languages—currently French, Spanish, Dutch, and Italian.
Family
Sunday Dinners
We've had dinner together every Sunday for as long as I can remember but I don't remember the meals, I remember lots of laughter and conversation. Our conversations range in topic from sports, to movies, to history, to art.
Christmas Traditions
Every year I read Dicken's A Christmas Carol and my mother and I make Christmas cookies. I host a tree trimming party and invite others to help decorate the house. Lots of time is spent visiting with family and friends.
Board Games
Board games have become a part of our Sunday tradition, either before or after dinner. It's a great way to bring everyone together. We laugh a lot.
Not Just Sundays
Together we have gone to Boston, Washington D.C., and a road trip to 6 states for baseball games. Closer to home we go for picnics at the beach or out for ice cream.
Extended Family
I'm very close to my extended family. Some are just minutes away and others I have to travel to see, but either way it's always time well spent. I enjoy hosting family reunions for everyone to stay in touch.
Birthdays
Everyone should feel special on their birthday. In our family, you pick your favorite meal and sometimes we add an activity. This year we took my nephew to a baseball game...but he still got to pick his favorite dinner.
Friends
I believe that it is important to make time for the people that you care about. Teaching my child the value of friendship is important. I always make time for friends. We often meet for dinner to talk and share what’s going on in our lives. My friends have been so supportive of my wish to adopt and have shared every step along the way.
Community
Long Island is a wonderful place to grow up. There are so many options and experiences to broaden your understanding of the wider world.
Neighborhood
I live in a quiet Long Island community. It is close to shops, restaurants, grocery stores, libraries, and playgrounds, There are a lot of children. You can tell where they are after school because there are a dozen bikes on the front lawn.
Schools
I live in an excellent school district with many extracurricular activities. The elementary school is a 3 block walk and the middle and high school bus stop is in front of my house.
Parks & Beaches
Several parks and the ocean are 10 minutes from my house. Walking through the nature preserve or along the boardwalk are my favorite ways to get some fresh air and exercise.
